The implementation of the project is the first step towards the optimisation of the existing infrastructure related to railway network safety and the improvement of the operational railway process in Burgas region in accordance with European standards and transport policy.
Burgas Railway Junction belongs to the south-eastern axis defined in the 2005 report of the High- Level Group chaired by Loyola de Palacio for the extension of the main trans-European axes to neighbouring countries and regions. The connection to Plovdiv-Sofia (III railway line), Karlovo-Sofia/Varna (III railway line) routes, which are part of the TINA network, the development of which is a very high priority for the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications in terms of transport infrastructure development, is carried out through Burgas-Karnobat section. The project also contributed to the implementation of the following international agreements and initiatives:
Trans-European Networks (TEN);
European Agreement on Main International Railway Lines (АGС);
European Agreement on Important International Combined Transport Lines (AGTC);
Trans-European Railway (ТЕR).
