Implementation period: 03.2012 – 10.2013
The construction of the railway line between the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria, i.e. from Kumanovo to the border with Bulgaria and Deve Bair – Gyeshevo Border Checkpoint, has been and still is an ongoing topic in the relations between the two countries. The construction of Corridor VIII railway line will be a key capital project in the Republic of North Macedonia. This railway line is indispensable not only for passenger transport, but also for freight transport, because currently freight transport is 90% and passenger transport only 10% of the total transport volume along Corridor VIII.
The railway line, part of Corridor 8, from Kumanovo via Beljakovce and Kriva Palanka to Deve Bair (the border with the Republic of Bulgaria) is 88.2 km long in total and is divided into three sections. The first part is from Kumanovo to Beljakovce with a length of 30.8 km, the second part is from Beljakovce to Kriva Palanka with a length of 34 km and the shortest but the hardest part from Kriva Palanka to the border checkpoint of Deve Bair – Gyeshevo is 23.4 km long.
The prepared design aims to facilitate the rehabilitation activities of the first section, from Kumanovo to Beljakovce, which was in operation until 1996. The section starts at the northern end of Kumanovo station up to and including Beljakovce station.
The main activities carried out under the contract are:
Preparation of detailed design for the following parts: railway track, drainage, signalling and telecommunications, etc.;
Preparation of Technical specifications and bill of quantities for the construction works;
